Well it’s done, and done properly. You know it was actually me that got Skype running on the AppleTV originally.
Well Brandon Holland has done the hard work and integrated it nicely into the AppleTV frontrow as a plugin. He’s also working on a really tidy Safari plugin

Steve announced software updates for the AppleTV at Macworld 08′. The update will basically allow you to access the iTunes store directly from the AppleTV. Computer-less AppleTV action?
Not only will the update have new features like online iTunes, it will also have a different look and feel to the existing front row interface. Will Apple leave the existing interface as an option for those that really like it?
The update is due in Feburary 08.
Steve’s Macworld 08 keynote is over, he’s announced a pile of stuff, but of most importance to the AppleTV lovers out there, is the release of a software update for AppleTV due in Feb. The interface looks new, the ATV will be able to buy or rent content directly from iTunes store without a computer. Standalone ATV?
With this news I expect to see some concerned ATV hackers. Will this new software update work on my hacked ATV, will it remove my hacks? Will I be able to re-hack the ATV once it’s upgraded? is this version 1.2? so many questions! I know I’m concerned!
On the bright side there will be DVD and HD (720p) with Dolby 5.1 movie playback/rentals. (highly unlikely we will see rentals in Australia, we cant even buy tv shows or movies through iTunes yet!)

Wow this is cool. I just found this with a but of Apple TV searching. You can use your iPhone or iPod touch (or any web browser device) as an Apple TV remote control! Why you would want to I do not know, but here’s the link anyway:

No this isn’t a post about Apple releasing updates to the Apple TV. It’s me asking you guys what you’ve been doing with your ATV lately!?
A lot of you have emailed me or posted questions and comments on the site regarding ATV.
